Case Study: Delivered a Successful International Production Transfer for Advanced Aerospace Automation Chip Systems
The Challenge
A global technology company specializing in automation for the aerospace industry faced a critical transition after successfully developing and validating automated equipment designed to sort high-precision microchips used in aircraft systems.
While research, development and prototype validation had been completed at the company’s German engineering center in close cooperation with its U.S. customer the next strategic objective was to relocate serial production to the manufacturing facility in Slovakia.
The project required much more than transferring equipment. It demanded the successful transfer of technical know-how, production expertise, quality standards and operational processes across three countries while maintaining product quality, delivery performance and customer confidence.
The Solution
Our Interim Manager was appointed to lead the entire industrial transfer from project planning through production launch.
The assignment included coordinating cross-functional international teams, managing project milestones and risks, establishing manufacturing processes, implementing quality standards and ensuring seamless communication between the German development center, the Slovak production facility.
A key success factor was building a highly skilled Slovak production team. Engineers and technicians completed an intensive six-month training program in Germany, where they gained hands-on experience in assembly, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of the automated systems.
Following the knowledge transfer, production lines were established in Slovakia, manufacturing procedures were standardized, testing protocols were implemented and the facility successfully transitioned into serial production.
The Results
The transfer project was completed according to schedule, enabling the Slovak facility to independently manufacture sophisticated automated systems for the aerospace sector.
The project delivered:
• Successful transfer of engineering and manufacturing know-how between Germany, Slovakia and the United States.
• A fully trained and self-sufficient production organization.
• Implementation of robust manufacturing and quality management processes.
• Smooth serial production launch without compromising quality or delivery performance.
• A scalable manufacturing operation prepared for future business growth.
The Value of Interim Management
Successful industrial transfers require far more than technical expertise. They depend on effective leadership, structured project management and the ability to align international teams around a common objective.
Through experienced interim management the client significantly reduced project risk, accelerated production readiness and achieved a seamless transition from prototype development to full-scale serial manufacturing while meeting demanding aerospace quality standards and customer expectations.
