What should an interim manager deliver to
Most clients cannot define this precisely. And that is the first problem.
Week 1 — Not action. Audit.
An interim manager who arrives on Monday and starts changing processes by Wednesday is dangerous. Without understanding the situation, every change can cause more damage than good.
The first week is for observation. Who actually makes decisions. Where the real problem is. What the team needs, not what management says it needs.
Week 2 — Diagnosis
By the end of the second week, the client should receive a clear answer to one question: what is the real root cause and how are we going to address it.
Not a PowerPoint. Not a report. A concrete plan with deadlines and responsibilities.
Week 3–4 — First results
Not a solved problem, first visible progress. A stabilised team. Clear communication with the customer. Processes that are starting to work.
In 30 days it is not realistic to expect a miracle. It is realistic to expect a clear direction and the team’s trust in the new leader.
What is an unrealistic expectation:
Solving in 30 days a problem the company has been building for 2 years. Changing company culture. Replacing missing systems and processes that never existed.
An interim manager is not a miracle solution. They are an experienced leader who stabilises the situation and creates the foundation for further growth.
